Fast Facts about OSU Bands
- Who is eligible?
- Any Oregon State University or Linn Benton Community College student.
Students may be enrolled in any school or college of the University.
OSU MARCHING BAND (Music 153)
- How often does the Marching Band rehearse?

Three days a week. Monday-Wednesday from 6:30 to 9:00 p.m. and Friday from 5:00 to 7:00 p.m. Band Camp is the week prior to the beginning of classes.
- Does the Marching Band perform every weekend?
- No. The Band does not travel to every away game. Typically, there are 7-8
performances during the fall term.
In recent years, the OSU Marching Band has performed at Oregon, Cal,
Stanford, The Fiesta and Insight Bowls in Phoenix, Arizona, the Oahu Bowl in
Hawaii, the Las Vegas Bowl, the Emerald Bowl in San Francisco, CA, and the
Sun Bowl in El Paso, TX.

- Are there costs involved with being in the Marching Band?
- There are no costs for travel. Instruments are available for those students
requiring one. There is a $100 charge for a band shirt, hat, and shoes.
- Will I get a grade for Band?
- Yes. Marching Band (course number Music 153) offers 1 or 2 credits.
Students receive a grade, which counts toward their grade point average. For
music students, Marching Band serves as a curricular ensemble.
CONCERT BANDS (Music 150, 151)

- What ensembles are available?
- The Wind Ensemble, Wind Symphony, and Campus Band are all offered every
term (Fall, Winter, and Spring). The Symphonic Band is offered Winter and
Spring only. The Wind Ensemble and Wind Symphony are auditioned groups.
The Symphonic and Concert Bands require no audition.
- How often do they rehearse and perform?
- The Wind Ensemble, Wind Symphony and Symphonic Band rehearse twice per
week and generally play one to two concerts on campus per term. The Campus
Band rehearses one day per week and generally performs one concert on campus.
- Will I get a grade for Band?
- Yes. All Bands are available for course credit.
BASKETBALL PEP BAND (Music 154)
- Who is eligible for Pep Band?
- During the winter term, students who performed during that fall in the OSU
Marching Band are eligible to participate in Pep Band.
- What do the Pep Bands play for?
- All Men’s and Women’s home Basketball games at Gill Coliseum. In order to
provide a comfortable schedule for the Pep Band, a student rotation schedule is
employed.
- What is Rhythm and Beavs?
- Rhythm and Beavs is a small group auditioned from the Marching Band that plays
for Athletic and other special events. This group performs for the Beavers Pac-10
Tournament games and then follows the team to any NCAA or NIT Post-Season
Tournament games.
- Is there Course credit or Scholarship money?
- Each student may register for Music 152 for 1 credit and receives a scholarship.
All students receive stipend for participation in the OSU Marching Band.
